- Pull your DEH permit records by APN or address — many include a site sketch.
- Find where the 4-inch waste pipe exits the house foundation.
- Walk the line outward 5-30 feet, downhill if there is slope.
- Push a thin metal probe straight down — feel for a hard, flat tap at 4-12 inches.
- Map a 2-foot grid pattern outward from your initial hit to find lid edges.
